The Treasure Study
What do we research?
This research explores the development of memory in 6- to 10-year-olds, including children both with and without Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). We are interested in investigating how children self-reflect about their memories (called metacognition) and how this guides their decision-making.
What happens during the study?
In this study, your child will learn Japanese Kanji symbols! Your child will complete a game on a tablet assessing memory and cognition and a parent will fill out questionnaires about their child. The study is held as one 30-minute session with a researcher taking place in the Cognitive Development Lab on the UCCS campus. We also have some collaborations that occur at clinics and child care sites. Families will receive a $10 electronic gift card to a major retailer of their choice (Target, Starbucks, Amazon, etc.). Children will receive prizes throughout the study session and a science participation certificate.
Who is eligible?
Children must be between the ages of 6- to 10-years-old, speak and understand English, be able to withstand a 30-minute task, and not present oppositional defiant behaviors. Children with and without an ADHD diagnosis are eligible.
